Your New Role

Location: Sydney or Canberra
Role Type: Full-time, Temporary (2 years)

Reporting to the Head of International and Commonwealth Engagement (ICE), this role will help strengthen our engagement with key stakeholders including policy and central agencies, international counterparts and industry associations. A key focus of the International and Commonwealth Engagement (ICE) team is to support transactions completed under Export Finance Australia’s (EFA) critical minerals, infrastructure, Southeast Asia and defence mandates, including those completed in the national interest. As part of onboarding, the successful candidate will work across all areas of National Interest transactions, and will gain specific expertise in priority mandates over time. As an Associate Director, you will represent EFA in a range of Government and Industry settings, help execute EFA’s input into Commonwealth Government policy processes and work with the Head of ICE to execute strategies to grow our organisation’s international engagement, enhance its reputation and mitigate risk.

Ability to lead and plan strategically, leveraging your background in policy development, international relations, or infrastructure to support activities that are aligned to our Corporate Plan objectives.
Display strong analytical skills, enabling you to understand and explain complex political issues, and present a range of potential solutions.
Build strong working relationships with key government stakeholders including the office of the Minister for Trade and Tourism, Assistant Minister for Trade and portfolio agencies including DFAT and Austrade, as well as other agencies including the Department of Defence.
Identify and respond to risks and opportunities in the domestic and international trade landscape through internal and external consultation in a timely manner.
Drive positive reputational outcomes to protect and grow our brand.
Monitor media activity, working closely with the Head of ICE and Executive to prepare media talking points and briefing documents as required.
Lead the preparation of speeches, media releases and briefings relevant to your areas of responsibility. Contribute to other briefings as required.

About you

Tertiary qualifications in government, economics, political science or international relations or equivalent experience gained in complex public or private sector organisations.
Experience in policy development, foreign policy, national security, economics and finance or corporate affairs with 5+ years experience in a similar role.
Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including developing high quality briefing documents, report writing and general email communication tailored to diverse stakeholder groups.
Ability to work as part of a small collaborative team in a dynamic environment.
Good understanding of the machinery of government and policy frameworks which could include direct experience liaising at ministerial, Parliamentary and/or departmental level.
Work effectively across functions, juggling competing priorities from different stakeholders based on business needs.
Ability to lead, coach and develop other staff.
Ability to effectively manage budgets and external vendors to optimise value, working within our risk and compliance framework.
