Your New Role 

Location: Sydney or Canberra
Role Type: Full-time, Temporary (2 years)

Reporting to the Head of International and Commonwealth Engagement, this role will help strengthen our relationships with Ministerial and Government stakeholders, international export credit agency counterparts and other financiers, industry associations, media and other key external stakeholders. A key focus of the International and Commonwealth Engagement (ICE) team is to support transactions completed under Export Finance Australia’s (EFA) critical minerals, infrastructure, Southeast Asia and defence mandates, including those completed in the national interest. As part of onboarding, the successful candidate will work across all areas of National Interest transactions, and will gain specific expertise in priority mandates over time. As a Director in the ICE team, you will represent EFA in a range of Government and Industry settings, help execute EFA’s input into Commonwealth Government policy and parliamentary processes and work with the Head of ICE to develop and execute strategies to grow our organisation’s international engagement, enhance its reputation and mitigate risk.

  • Ability to lead and plan strategically, leveraging geo-political understanding to provide context and insights to activities that are aligned to our corporate plan.
  • Play a leading role in supporting the organisation to deliver on key Government policy objectives and reforms.
  • Display superior analytical skills to articulate complex issues, enabling the organisation’s understanding and response.
  • Build strong working relationships with key government stakeholders including the office of the Minister for Trade, Toursim and Investment, portfolio agencies including DFAT and  Austrade, the Department of Finance, Commonwealth entities including AIFFP, NAIF and Tourism Australia, as well as other policy and central agencies.
  • Identify and respond to risks and opportunities in the domestic and international trade landscape through internal and external consultation in a timely manner.
  • Monitor media activity, working closely with the Head of ICE and Executive to prepare media talking points and briefing documents as required.
  • Drive positive reputational outcomes to protect and grow our brand.
  • Support execution, monitoring and measurement of Export Finance Australia’s Partnerships Strategy, including the CEO’s international and domestic engagement programm including the preparation of speeches, media releases and briefings.
  • Build effective working relationships with international ECA partners,  foreign officials and private sector stakeholders including financing and development institutions to deliver on our expanded powers and to build our brand awareness and referral network.
  • Partner with the Director of Marketing to develop and execute marketing collateral to support key mandates: infrastructure and Southeast Asia

About you

  • Experience in international and/or domestic policy, economics and finance, and corporate affairs with minimum 8+years experience in a similar role

  • Good understanding of the machinery of government and parliamentary institutions and policy frameworks which could include direct experience liaising at senior ministerial, Parliamentary and/or Departmental level

  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work as part of a small collaborative team in a dynamic environment

  • Work effectively across functions juggling competing priorities from different stakeholders based on business needs

  • Ability to lead, coach and develop direct reports, including embedding consistently high standards of briefings, reports and general communication for diverse stakeholders.

  • Ability to effectively manage budgets and external vendors to optimise value, working within our risk and compliance framework

  • Tertiary qualifications in government, economics,  political science or international relations or equivalent experience gained in complex public or private sector organisations.
